I did the Brook Trail-Crest Trail-Pomperaug Trail Loop. It's a decent work out and each one has its own charm. The Brook Trail offered nice flow of water in the waterfalls...while the Crest Trail has expansive high views over the river. You may continue descending all the way to Jackson Cove, if you so wish.
Nice quiet place. We went a few days after 4th of July so we just missed the crowds. Has bathrooms, showers (yes water is heated), water stations, fire rings on every site, sell fire wood and ice in park. Also, each site has a picnic table which is a big help. Sites are decent size. There is access to the water to fish and walk in. Big fish!! Lost one 4ft in front of me and it was all of 2ft+. All in all, it's a nice spot. Just watch out for the ample amount of poison ivy!!!!!😬😬😬. Will be back again.
Nice park with lots of space for parking and picnic tables. Easy trails that goes along the brook. When we went it was not busy and we had a good time. There is also a place to launch your canoe.
Very nice, beautiful park!! Staff was helpful and polite. Loved camping near the water.
This park has so many great qualities!!
Only drawback is the bathhouse. From our campsite we had to walk up a very steep, rocky hill. Would be very difficult for some.
Restrooms were dirty. In dire need of a pressure washing and fresh coat of paint! Only one shower with just a curtain, so no security when showering.
I was visiting friends for July 4th who own a cabin on LAKE ZOAR. What a fantastic time I had. Between the boating, grilling and fireworks, it was amazing.....my friends have had the cabin in their family for 50 yrs and I can't wait to visit again next year.
Wonderful park for hiking. During the off season you can park near the kiosk in front and walk the dogs or whatever down the main park road to the campground with no entrance fee and no traffic. The loop trail to Jackson Cove is a challenging and rewarding hike.
This is a review for campgrounds as well as state park.
I enjoy Kettletown as there is swimming, boating, hiking and fishing, and it is well kept. Unfortunately the water is too yucky for me- skeevy to say the least but the kids enjoy. The moment is gave up was when there was a dead fish floating in the swim area and it was rather large. Yuck. But it's a lake.
The campground is small but nice, and there isn't much for tree coverage and privacy so it doesn't really feel like camping.
There is a $50 cash or check refundable deposit on cabin. The cabins are cute as hec! I loved staying in cabin. Very hot so bring a fan or 2, and there is electricity. The drinking water is not refreshing looking at all....
This park is a gem! Lots of space and features because of the proximity to Lake Zoar/The Housatonic River, creeks, and even a “beach.” The hiking trails are not all the easiest but that makes for the appeal of this park. You can really feel like you’re out away from the nearby towns and cities very quickly.
There’s even trout in the creek and smallmouth bass out in the Lake.
